Episodes Episode 1 - Esteban, Child of the sunThe episode starts in Barcelona at the cathedral with an Orphan called Esteban. He runs to a tavern to listen to stories of the sailors, where he hears talks about cities of gold and a ship setting sail soon. People don't know he is there and they are asked to find him for a festival. A man called Mendoza stays behind and talks to Esteban, when he realised he has met Esteban years ago. After Esteban rushed outside into the rain, people begin to chase him, until Mendoza gets him to fall into the crowd, because he is afraid of heights. To get to the festival, Esteban is carried past the queen, where he sees a strange girl. Even thought he is afraid of heights, Esteban is being hoisted up a ships mast to make the rain clouds go away to bring the sun out. He is called "Child of the sun". After the sun finally came out, a priest says that father Rodriguez is badly ill, and Esteban goes back to the cathedral. Before father Rodriguez dies, he tells Esteban something important about his past. Mendzoa stood outside and listened. A bit later Mendoza persuades Esteban to come with him to the new world on the ship Esperansa. Close to the morning, Esteban arrives at the ship, and Mendoza's helpers, Sancho and Pedro help him aboard. Esteban is hidden below deck until they are at sea. One box made noises and he found that the girl he saw earlier was tied up inside. Episode 2 - Crossing the AtlanticThe ship Esperanza leaves Barcelona, Esteban and Zia discover that they have the same medallions. While he was seasick, the Captain of the guard, Captain Gaspard discovers them. Before they could be thrown overboard, Mendoza defuses the situation. Senior Gomez assigns Mendoza to look after children until they reach their destination. Senior Gomez and Captain Perez reluctently inform Captain Gaspard why they need Zia. Esteban discovered that they are planning to get rid of Mendoza once Mendoza's services as a navigator are not needed anymore. The episode ends with the Esperanza entering the straights of Magellan. Mendoza explained the danger of the waves where the Atlantic and Pacific oceans meet. Episode 3 - Heroes againThe troublesome trip into the straights of Magellan begins. The waves and wind are strong. Mendoza stays awake for several days to steer the ship, while Sancho and Pedro take turns in helping him. Rations are getting more reduced and worse. The icebergs and storm bring about cold temperatures. After days and minor damage sustained, the Esperanza reaches the other side of the straights. As Esteban walks onto the deck the sun comes up. The Pacific Ocean offers new sights like flying fish and Mendoza gets a flashback of when he rescued Esteban many years ago. Esteban tries to get fresh water for Zia, rats scare him, Captain Gaspard catches him and imprisones Esteban and Zia. As Captain Gaspard was about to attack Mendoza, a typhoon started endangering the ship, which suddenly made Mendoza useful again. Episode 4 - Adrift on the Endless SeaThe typhoon start hitting the Esperanza, which gets lifted out of the water. The masts break, sails get ripped off, and a lot of leaks start to appear. As the water is rushing in, Mendoza goes to rescue Zia and Esteban. Captain Gaspard is ordered to fetch Zia and take her to the lifeboats. The lifeboats move away, and Mendoza rescues Zia and Esteban, they nearly didn't make it out alive. The Esperanza starts breaking apart. As Esteban climbs up the last remaining broken mast, the storm calms down, and the sun comes out. The bow of the Esperanza still drifts several hours. Zia talks about her father. The St. Elmos fire begins building at the top of the mast, it is meant to bring bad luck. The ship starts moving faster and starts breaking apart. They start building a raft. The raft with everyone on gets of the ship just in time before it finally breaks apart, them they drift for a while at at, until sharks start to attack. With the attack, the anchovies and sail where gone. After a while they see a seagull flying overhead, and they spot land. Before they reach the island, Mendoza has another shark encounter. The raft reaches the beach. Episode 5 - The Abduction of Zia |
